Sohn einer Mutter. Mutter eines Sohns. (Son of a mother. Mother of a son.)

Iranian playwright and director Pooyan Bagherzadeh paints a moving picture of a mother in Iran and her son in Germany. In their daily video calls, Bagherzadeh describes not only an exemplary mother-son relationship, but also growing up in Iran, the historical developments from the revolution to the present day and the adversities of everyday life. But above all, he shows one thing: the great concern for each other.
«‹A person who sacrifices for others gives themselves the right to censor someone else!› … Perhaps this sentence is filled with exaggeration and may be distant from our prevailing beliefs. But it is a part of the ultimate romantic relationship between a son and a mother, where love produces anger instead of peace, and turns into a wound instead of a remedy. Such dynamics unfold within a society that, at times, upholds rigid and harshly judgmental standards. ‹Son of a Mother, Mother of a Son› is an attempt to narrate complex and deep human emotions against the backdrop of the contemporary history of a nation.» - Pooyan Bagherzadeh
