HA!
by and with Mariam Megvinyteby and with Mariam Megvinyte
In autumn 2025, writer and director Mariam Megvinyte from Tbilisi will join us in Munich for several months as part of a writing residency. This year’s WELT/BÜHNE festival introduces her work early with a reading of her play «Ha!».
Originally written as a «play within a play» for a production of «Hamlet» at the Haraki Theatre in Tbilisi, «Ha!» has since evolved into a powerful standalone piece. In it, Mariam Megvinyte expands Shakespeare‘s exploration of guilt to confront the armed conflicts of our own time.
Resident director Elsa-Sophie Jach will stage the reading, followed by a conversation with the author. She will be joined by Christoph Leibold, editor at Bayerischer Rundfunk and expert on the Georgian theatre scene, and Wachtang Tscheischwili, art scholar, artist and the play’s German translator.
