Asiimwe Deborah Kawe
Asiimwe Deborah Kawe, born in Uganda in 1973, is a writer, director and performer. She studied music, dance and theater at Markerere University in Kampala-Uganda, and Writing for Performance at the California Institute of the Arts.
In addition to numerous theater texts such as «Forgotten World», «Cooking Oil,» «Appointment with gOD», «Un-entitled», she also writes radio plays. She won an award in the BBC Play writing Competition for the radio play «Will Smith Look Alike».
She is the producing artistic director of the Tebere Arts Foundation and artistic director of the Kampala International Theatre Festival. She was able to gain international theater experience working at the Sundance Institute Theater Program. She was a scholarship holder at the Schloss Solitude Academy in Stuttgart and held a visiting lecturer position at Pomona College in California and a guest artist at the New York University in Abu Dhabi.
Ms. Asiimwe was recently awarded for her theatre work on the continent of Africa and beyond at the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.
