Andreas Beck

Artistic Director

Born in Mülheim/Ruhr in 1965, studied Art History, Sociology and Theatre Studies in Munich and Bologna. He initially worked as an assistant director at the Vienna Burgtheater and then as a freelance director. He was subsequently a dramaturg at the Bavarian State Theatre in Munich, Managing Dramaturg and Director of the playwriting project «Dichter ans Theater» at Stuttgart State Theatre and Director of the playwriting project «Schreibtheater» at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg before rejoining the Vienna Burgtheater as a dramaturg.

From 2007 to 2015 he was Artistic Director and Managing Director at the Vienna Schauspielhaus.

From 2015 to 2019 Andreas Beck was Artistic Director of Theater Basel.

Andreas Beck assumed his current post as Artistic Director of the Bavarian State Theatre (Residenztheater) at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season.
